A wow-so-many and a where-did-everybody-go

Sun Nov 11, 2012 4:24 pm

Hello, Hector.

Wow-so-many:

While skimming some titles, particularly those with special effects integral to their success like Avatar and Hellboy, I noticed a large, large number of special effects people given credit, albeit without facial portraits since they are usually behind the scenes people. The question is, why include these large number of behind-the-scenes people? Why not just the companies they work for? If there is a good reason, does this reason also apply for makeup artists, set designers and costume designers? Where does it end? Are we venturing far from the purpose of Coollector?

Where-did-everybody-go:

Several TV series have no actors listed at all. La Reina Del Sur and Torchwood have none, while Spooks--MI5 has only Peter Firth and no other. I assume adding character portraits will be quite difficult without the character/actor listed.

Definitively not. We list persons, not companies.

We try to find as much information as we can about a movie. If different sources of information agree that a person participated in a movie, then we list that person. That's how, with some very famous movies, we end up listing a lot of crew members.

That sounds like a bug. I will try to understand what's happening. Thanks for reporting this problem !

"Definitively not. We list persons, not companies."

Sorry to be argumentative. But ... I found the following with music profession filter:

17 hippies
ac/dc
all lowercase letters
american cream team
animal collective
big idea music
black heart rebellion
blackmail
blackmask
blind lemon music
blow up hollywood
blue infernal machine
blue weaver
boxhead ensemble
brass castle
brave combo
bright blue gorilla
broken social scene
bruno benetton free band.

I stopped before going into "persons" beginning with the letter "c". These monikers don't sound like names of individuals. If exceptions are made here ...

Yes, you are argumentative :P

Indeed, sometimes some names of music groups (and even sometimes names of companies) might slip through. But you'll understand that it's not intentional. Those are just small occasional errors, that are even not worth fixing (I have better things to do). And frankly, I don't really consider the music group names as errors.

Now you can contribute character pictures 8)

That must have been some "bug"!

9 MB increase in size of download. I think all of the TV series I have tagged lengthened their list of actors. And that is just a small sample of all the TV series listed. Thankfully, it's a one-time event.
