This morning I downloaded the new update 2.11. I just now went to access the database and I get no responce at all. I tried accessing my latest database in My Documents and they will not respond. I'm able to access this site through Start, all programs, coolector, support forum. As if you have nothing to do I dump this problem in your lap. Sorry.

I'll bet it's because it's Friday the 13th.

Nothing happens when you launch Coollector ? Maybe the program did not close well the last time, and is still running in the background. Please try rebooting your computer, and tell me what it gives.

You get the message that "Coollector is not responding" when you try to reboot, isn't it ?

That's the proof that Coollector did not close well, and is still running in the background. Windows should propose you to stop it immediatly, isn't it ?

If if doesn't work, you'll have to make "Control + Alt + Delete" to invoke the Task Manager. Then click the tab "processes". Select "Coollector.exe". And click the button "End Process".

I can't figure out why you had to reboot several times, but I'm glad that it works again

Now I cannot do a criterion search in either movies or persons catagory. The screen freezes and I have to do a control-alt-delete, task manager says "Coolector not responding".

Please download the new prices (clicking the update button).

If it still freezes after that, please mail me those 2 files:

1) "My Documents\Coollector\MyCoollection.cool"

2) "My Documents\Coollector\Tmp\indexing.dat"

at this address: support at coollector dot com

Thank you very much !

Yes. I sent it to
support at coollector dot com

Now I have more to deal with.

Boy do I have problems now. My computer crashed and I had to use my recovery disks to bring the computer back to it’s original state. I spent the last 6 hours reinstalling all of the additional software I use. I downloaded Coollector onto my computer off of the web and it downloaded the latest version. I do have a copy of Coollector on my laptop so at least I have the backups of my movies. I copied the latest backup file from the laptop onto my desktop but Coollector is not recognizing the latest backup. Coolector on my desktop keeps opening with the basic Coollector file. Even though this problem exists I cannot use the criterion search function because I get a dialog box that tells me that Coollector has encountered a problem and has to close.

I have no idea what's happening. I hope that Coollector is not the culprit...

You can test your backup file by directly clicking on it.
Then, make sure that you copy it to the right location:
"My Documents\Coollector\MyCoollection.cool"

Did you make a CheckDisk ? Maybe your filesystem is corrupted...

I think that I finally understood what's happening :D

Every time a new version of the program is released, the file "indexing.dat" needs to be reconstructed, which may take up to several minutes if you have lots of movies in your coollection. If you access the criterion search while "indexing.dat" is being reconstructed, the cursor turns into an hourglass cursor, and the program becomes unresponsive until the reconstructing is complete.

It's perfectly normal, but I agree it may look like a bug. The change I'll make is I'll display a message to inform that the program is busy reconstructing its database indexing, with a progress bar information.

P.S: in all honesty, I don't think Coollector could possibly mess up your system like you describe.

Coollector was busy indexing the new database, so it did not really close until the indexing is finished. It didn't show anymore, but was still running in the background. And as long as it's not completely closed, you can't open another instance.
