I'd like the option when scanning to assign all video files to a selected movie/series.

I'm trying to add a folder with 500+ files all of the same series. I have to search through the entire list because some files contain episode names and so end up getting incorrectly recognized.

Please give me some examples. I don't understand how this could happen, and I'll probably be able to improve the scanning algorithm to prevent this.

I think a better way to explain what i meant was to say 'Use folder name by default'

Thank you very much for those examples. I wasn't aware of the problem, but it'll be easy to fix

'use folder name by default' would be a terrible choice. For each file you can switch to 'use folder name', but I agree that when you have this many files to fix, it's far from convenient. Luckily , when I'll have improved the scanning algorithm, you won't have any more problem.

Those are examples from the 100+ (maybe 200?) files that i had to either click 'use folder' or 'not recognized' for. I accidentally closed the list before i was halfway through 1700+ files. I'll soon be scanning at least 1000 more from various series but unfortunately those files haven't been conveniently renamed.

- The files I'm scanning now have all been renamed with a batch-renamer and scanned correctly in the past.

I'm going out to do some shopping (my fridge is empty) and I'll fix it when I'm back :D

I meant e.g. a check box when setting up the scan. It was a mistake saying 'by default'. I meant for the files in the current scan only, not all scans done by Coollector.

That will work for the movies I'm scanning now because a few years ago i spent days making sure that all the files on that hard disk were correctly named. The files I'll be scanning later this week aren't properly named and I don't have time to rename files by the thousands. Scanning by folder is a Godsend but it'll still take a while to individually to click 'Use folder Name' that many times. Why not just add it to the scanning window or the settings page or somewhere similar?

This is especially true in cases like pokemon where a season may have 40 to 50 episodes. That's 40 to 50 times less renaming.

Please replace your Coollector.exe with this one:

http://www.coollector.com/Coollector.exe

Most files should scan fine now, except for "Ben 10 - s02e08 - The Ultimate Weapon" and "Ben 10 - s03e07 - Super Alien Hero Buddy Adventures!" which are associated to "Ben 10: Ultimate Alien" because of the words "ultimate" and "alien" and I think it's normal it does that (unfortunate, but normal).

That's where it should be placed, because changing the settings needs a full re-scan. Your screenshot proposition isn't acceptable because of that.

I will think about it, but I don't like it much because it makes the feature more complex and scary, just to handle a situation which is pretty rare.

Days? A geek like you? You don't use a file renamer? With a file renamer, you can fix hundreds of file names in a matter of seconds.

Personally, I use and recommend this freebie:

http://www.antp.be/software/renamer

In your case, you'll append "Series Name - " at the beginning of each file from the folder ;)

My mistake. It's not true.

I have a suggestion that I find less intrusive. If you click the button "use folder name" and there are other files inside that folder, a message dialog would pop up, asking if you want to do the same with the other files.

For example...

"This folder also contains the following files:

File Name 1
File Name 2
File Name 3
File Name 4

Do you want to use the folder name for those files too?".

pokémon season 12 - diamond and pearl\

Psych 407 - High Top Fade Out

Psych.S05E09.One.Maybe.Two.Ways.Out.HDTV.XviD-FQM

Much better. Only 47 not recognized. I made it to the bottom of the list this time - 1673 added.

I usually use a batch renamer but it's still a very slow process. I'll add the ones from the other drives when i can get away with renaming folders only.

Thank you, I will fix it.

Sorry, those ones I can't fix. The longest matching string is "Psych", and the file is associated to the most popular movie starting with "Psych". You have to add the year.

I have started working on it, but I'm about to go to sleep. I should finish it tomorrow.

Thank you very much for your great feedback :V:
