Had to buy a new PC and reinstall the program. Of course all my movies are gone can I save them somehow from the old Coolector folder that was in my documents, or do I have to re enter each of the 5000+ movies!?

You only have to transfer the coollection file "MyCoollection.cool" to the new computer.

But it's not in your old coollector folder, it's in your old "My Documents" folder, I hope you still have it.

Please tell me if you have any trouble.

It's simply your Windows Explorer which is set to hide the file extensions. You don't see the .cool extension, but no problem, it's the right file ;)

Yes, it's the "My Documents\Coollector\" folder, not the program folder.

Did the folder already contain a "MyCoollection.cool" file that you had to replaced? If there was no file, you were not in the right folder.

Uninstalling won't help at all.

You need to locate the right file and replace it. Run Coollector and use the menu "Help->Locate my coollection file".

yes I see that the reinstall made no difference. Perhaps when I backed up My Documents something went awry. Oh well I'll decide later if I want to pursue this mater. Re entering all those movies is just not worth it

Please send me your "MyCoollection.cool" file from the old computer.

My email: hector at coollector dot com

I doubt you'll have to do that. The program creates automatic backups, and we haven't tried them yet...

I just noticed the backups folder in the Documents folder I saved and there's a plethora of My Coolection files in there. The most recent one is October 11 2013. Should I try moving that file to the new Documents/Coolector folder or move the entire Backups folder?
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated

Yep, those are the backups that the program made automatically. It's great that you have them.

How big is it compared to the file that you tried? If it's bigger, then the file you tried had a problem.

Make sure that you're in the right place by using the menu "Help->Locate my coollection file". You'll have to rename the backup. Its name must be "MyCoollection".

If you still fail to make it work for whatever reason, there's an easy way to check a coollection file: you double-click it, and Coollector will read it. Coollector has to be closed when you do that, because there can be only one instance of the program running at the same time.

Clicking on the MyCoollection file that was saved from old documents folder works.
When the program starts it shows 5'550 movies owned.
When I reinstalled the program there was only one folder in my Documents "Databases" .
When I tried to copy the old MyCoollection file into My Documents/Coollector My computer created 2 folders called Coollector and it won't work from there.
Maybe I should put a shortcut to the file that works on my dexktop and use that to start the program?

You'll always have this solution as a last resort, but before that, why don't you just try the menu "Help->Locate my coollection file" as I asked you to do? This way you'll be sure that you're in the right place. You'll find the current coollection file. You'll delete it and you'll replace it by your backup.

Yeah sorry I missed that tip. That seems to have solved the problem.
Apparently the Documents Folder under Libraries is different from My Documents.
You are a wizard my friend
