Hi,

i just bought a new nas with delicious 16Tb, moved about 800 movies
from older hdd's to it ! Now i have a problem.....
The movies are on QNas and the QNas is not visible (or i don't know
how to do it) on the network, so it's impossible to collect the data with
Coollector.

Is there a way to use SSH in coollector to collect moviedata, SSH is
for me the fastest way to play and show to movies from my mediaplayer. Would be
nice if i could manually add a source with username and password in coollectors
add movies menu.

grtz

If I understand right, SSH allows you to access your files from the internet. This way you can play your files even when you're not at home. Am I correct?

When you're at home, you'll agree that it's a shame to waste your internet bandwidth (and maybe usage cap) when you would get better results by simply connecting through the network.

But when you're on the go (and you've left your NAS running at home), it could indeed be interesting to use SSH. Is it what you're trying to do? If it is, then I need you to give me an example of a SSH file path and I'll see if I can make it work. I suppose that SSH requires a password, so it might be complicated...

I suppose you're not doing the right thing. The QNas should be visible and SSH is only an option to access your files from the internet.

How did you send your files to the QNas? Can't you see the QNas from Windows Explorer when you select "Networks"?

I use SSH to browse the files on NAS from MiniX
Browsing from laptop works when i use the internal IP address

That's the problem, i can't see the nas on the network, don't know why
Using the internal IP on the laptop works fine
also the MiniX does not show under SMB only under SSH

Correct, it looks like : \\192.168.2.13\f.e. multimedia\username\password

No, i can't see the nas on internal network....
Thats why i went to SSH
SMB usually used for conncting to nas from MiniX doesn't work, only SSH

MiniX is an Android box, so you can't run Coollector on it. Can you?

Could you make it work on your laptop?

Probably you could find help on the QNAP forums or on Youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=qnap+settings

You have assumed that only SSH is possible because that's what you've been able to make work. But I've convinced that your QNAP can work like any other NAS, via the network.

By the way, wouldn't support for different locations, username and password
make Coollector much more flexibel ?

I'm always looking forward to improve the program. I had never thought about SSH access before, and frankly I don't even have a clear idea what that implies exactly.

But in your case, I'm not convinced that SSH access is what you need. You got a brand new NAS but you haven't been able to set it up properly, that's your real problem IMHO. I can't imagine a NAS that can only be accessed through SSH. It's quite absurd to consume internet bandwith to send the file, then to consume again to receive the file, when going through the network would consume zero internet bandwidth. Unless you have a very fast internet connection (without any cap), you'll get into troubles with HD files.

Thank you for the links, by now i managed to reach The files with Windows Explorer. I created shared folders, this works... Still like The SSH option, it makes coollector more flexible.

I'll Start reading the topics you gave me the links for...

I'm mostly bothered because your password would appear in the file path, which would be a breach of security.

Also, I seriously doubt that there's a big demand for this kind of feature. I'd better work on something else...
