I am trying to add tv episode mp4 files that I have stored on an external drive. I use iTunes, which stores the files in a folder with the series name and subfolders for each season. My question is how can I use the series named folder instead of the season folders to search when scanning my files?

When a file isn't correctly associated, you've probably noticed that there's a button to ask the app to use the folder name instead of the file name. If you want the app to always use the folder name, you can use the menu "Tools->Settings", then click the "advanced" tab and finally check "File scanning->Recognize folder name instead of file name".

I've done that, but then it only uses the season number folder, not the show folder.
For clarification, my folder/file structure is: Show name (folder)/Season number (folder)/Episode name (file). iTunes automatically creates the file structure based on the file metadata, so is there a way to bypass the season folder when scanning in Coollector?

I could improve the algorithm this way: when the name of the folder is "season xx" (or "saison xx", or "staffel xx", or "temporada xx", or "stagione xx"), the algorithm uses the name of the parent folder. Would that solve your problem?

Later today or maybe tomorrow, I'll give you a version so you can test. Do you have a Mac or a PC?

Here's the app for Mac:
http://www.coollector.com/Coollector_Movie_Database.zip

Here's the exe for Windows:
https://www.coollector.com/Coollector.exe

It was a little more work than I expected, but it was worth it. In the process I've discovered and fixed a couple of issues. :V:

Please tell me if you still notice anything that could be improved.

I appreciate all your hard work on this. I installed the new app, but when I scan my file location, the program returns no results. Any suggestions?

No result? Are the files already associated or are they not recognized? Do you mean that the files are not detected at all?

The files aren't recognized at all, when the dialogue box pops up to confirm matches, there's nothing listed.
I even tried reinstalling the previous version and got the same result.

I'm very sorry, I've made a typo in my code, I know what's wrong. I'm creating a new app. Thank you very much for your patience.

The new Mac version is available:

I apologize once again, it was a case of "extreme bad luck".

It works! I did a test scan of a single tv show (I have a lot) and the program recognized the parent folder, matched the correct show and I now have the play icon in the episode list.

Thanks! You're awesome!
