By default, the app checks for updates on startup. When the update window appears, you can uncheck/check that option.

It's not necessary. All your personal data is stored inside one file, the coollection file. The app creates backups automatically in case your coollection file gets corrupted somehow.

That's why it's also a good idea to backup your coollection file somewhere else. You can easily do it on your own (for example on a USB key), or you can use the online backup feature to save it on our servers:
