Seems like each time I update the database I have to uninstall, then redownload your program otherwise it just hangs after each update without loading.

Are you using the portable version or the normal version?

Just Windows Defender.

And it did it again. No reason this time. No forced exit. Just died and I have to reinstall it. It hangs everytime otherwise.

No restart or blue screen.

It seems that Windows Defender wrongly considers a file as harmful and deletes it.

When you're forced to reinstall, which essential file is missing? Is it the .exe? Is it the movie database english.movies.dat?

There are many articles about Windows Defender deleting files:

https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+defender+deleted+files

Maybe this one could help you:

https://recoverit.wondershare.com/file-recovery/stop-windows-10-deleting-files.html

I doubt it's an issue that I can solve on my side :worried:

The .exe is digitally signed with an EV certificate, so Windows should know that it's not a threat. Which version of Windows do you have?

I mean so far as I know nothing deletes. I don't get any message. It just does not load. It hangs, eating up the CPU until I force close it in the task manager. I can turn off the Firewall if it does it again.

Then why do you have to reinstall?

Next time it'll happen, please restart your computer and try to launch Coollector. If it doesn't launch, there has to be an essential file deleted/quarantined/corrupted, otherwise it'd launch. Reinstalling just restores that missing file.

Interesting. The .exe seems to be fine.

If I recall the first time this happened to me, I did restart. And it made no difference. You then sent me an old .exe, which also didn't work. I then uninstalled and then reinstalled the program and suddenly the newest version (at the time) worked. Whatever's going on here has little to do with version updates.

Next times this happens, I can zip the data and send it to you?

I just checked, if the movie database was missing, you'd get an error message saying that it can't be found...

Ok, I think I could create a special .exe to diagnose what's happening when it's happening...

I'll get back to you this weekend ;)

The next time it'll happen, kill it then run this modified version:

https://www.coollector.com/Coollector_Skavau.exe

When everything's fine this version displays messages from "1" up to "16", but in your case it should stop before "16" and depending on the last displayed number I'll have an idea where the bug is located, allowing me to to refine even further with another version.
