Post subject:  Update conflict with Mycollection

:hi: First I would like to thank you for your efforts in trying to meet the many demands we users are placing upon your time. You have developed an excellent program. I am enjoying the program just as it is, and looking forward to the improvements you keep making. I like the look of your most recent upgrade but I get a windows error message " Coollector.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close...". The new program works fine without the MyCollection file, so I was wondering if I have the same problem - a corrupted file - as user 'newnham' who recently posted a similar problem in the forum. And like newnham I don't want to re-enter everything. Can you help?

Yes, please send me your coollection (it is probably corrupted too, a very small corruption that has little consequence, except when you update).

Post subject:  Still not working.

Hi Hector, thank you for your quick response. I can't load my library on the upgrade. Here's what is happening: first, the coollector file you attached to your return email reads 9.35 MB in the email but only 5.68 MB when downloaded. I mention that just in case it is meaningful. Secondly when I open coollector with the fixed file, none of my movie ratings or anything loads, and when I close Coollector the MyCoollection file size shrinks from 5.68 MB to less than 4 Kb. Maybe I'm missing the obvious. :?

:D Hector, you are as cool as your program, which is very cool indeed. Everything is working fine now, but I would like to mention one thing that happened in case it is useful to you. The file I downloaded was 7084 kb and when I ran Coollector everything loaded fine, but as I cursed down the movies in the string search window, the same microsoft error message came up as mentioned earlier and Coollector closed. When I reopened Coollector the file size was only 6578 kb but there was no error message. Thanks again, for taking care of my problem so quickly, I'm impressed, and will gladly recommend Coollector to my friends.

Thank you very much for all your kind comments, and yes, please talk to your friends about Coollector :D

I don't understand why you had yet another error message

But it's normal that the file has shrinked (it is automatically compacted when the program closes).

ABOUT THIS CORRUPTION PROBLEM: I have now a better understanding of it, and hopefully I will fix it with the next release.

CONCLUSION:

The corruption only occured when someone added a video with the empty string as media type (probably very few databases have been corrupted).

The new version of Coollector (1.12) prevents adding a video with an empty media type, so no new corruption will occur anymore.

To check if your database is already corrupted:
- close the program
- delete the file \Coollector\Database\indexing.dat
- reopen the program

If you get an error message, send me your .cool file and I'll fix it.
