That's strange, I made the test, and I had no problem subscribing. Sorry, but I have absolutely no idea what's wrong.
Maybe there remains the solution of subscribing to the forum RSS feed (that's what I do personally).
In the address bar of your browser => click the orange icon (I can see it on your screenshot).

At long last, I have succeeded to make work the forum email notifications !

On a similar note, wasnt there a link at the top of this page thet would send me back to 'General'. I keep having to press the 'Forum' button at the top of the page after reading or making a post. Was it this way all along or am I missing something.
