Finding doubles

Tue Mar 29, 2011 12:33 pm

Hi,.

By starting to use your fantastic program i stopped loading
movies 2 or 3 times from the internet  Now however i´ve
got severals HDD´s with lots of doubles!

I have to select the movie in the database to find out under owned video´s :
1 x Video_ts
3 x avi

Is ther a possebility to add the option "find doubles" or
something like that, i would be very happy with such an option.

grtz

Honestly, I don't plan to add such a feature.

The easiest way to locate your duplicates is to click "owned videos",and then use the "right" key to navigate through the movies. I'm sure that won't take very long.

@ Skinamp
Dont you have about 5Tb of movies?

@Hector, If coollector shows an icon for playable isn't it possible to show a slightly different icon if there are multiple playable files? (like adding a dot or something beside the icon?)

Maybe this would help Skinamp's predicament. :)

Frankly, I don't consider this feature request as important.

If Skinamp didn't notice before that he had duplicate movies on his hard drive, it's because he has a lot of disk space. He shouldn't be obsessed about those duplicates, and simply remove them as he'll spot them over time.

Also, in most cases, it's normal to have duplicates. Different editions, series episodes, etc...

For some insane reason I'm actually amused

Hi Kakashi,..

I´m glad i make you smile :D
Yes, by now its more than 5 TByte
HDD1 2TByte full (MMedia player)
HDD2 (new) Seagate 3TByte usb Full
HDD3 - 1TByte Full
HDD4 and 5 both 1 TByte, must be filled

So, scrolling trough the database with the right key, constantly schwitching
the drives to delete movies, could be a job that takes a long time, i would
like to check the files (quality and language) before deleting, so it takes even
longer,...
The database has an option "print list", i think an button "print doubles"
would be the best option because i can check and delete all movies from
the list without changing the drives 1000 times. The path should be on the
list so i can select and check all movies on one drive and then switch to the
next,..and so on !!

I´m sure there are more then a 100 doubles,...
Wen ready i hope i´ll still have 2 TByte of good movies 8)

Hi,.

I like to get back on this topic !
Working 2 days, two maybe three hours a day, i only managed to check
about 200 movies on one HDD with more than 600 Movies (avi) on it.

Looking for the doubles in the database is only a matter of scrolling
trough the movies, writing down ALL doubles, connect one of the HDD´s
and delete the movie.
BUT : Is the movie i delete the one with bad quality or good quality,...?
So, chance HDD´s and check the second file,.... and so on.
Or connect one HDD and lookup every movie written on HDD in Coollector
to see if it´s a double :-(

As you will understand this takes months this way,..
I hope you´ll reconsidder the option of printing a double list :rtfm: ?

It would make my live a lot easier

grtz

I'm sorry, but your case is very very very special:

1) you have lots of doubles.

2) you have too many hard drives to connect them all at the same time to your computer.

Please understand that I prefer to work on the features that will benefit the most users, not just 1 user.

Question is : am i the only user with more then one HDD and doubles ?

I respect it if u don´t want to add this feature
But don´t like it :cry2:

@Skinamp

Before I buy any more HDD's I'm planning on getting a raid array to keep my files at home more organized. Like me you don't seem to have any qualms about forking up cash when it comes to storage. Have you thought of investing in a raid array? (or maybe a USB hub would help?).

I know it would be hard on you but I'd have to agree with Hector on this one (I rarely do). You must understand that depending on the structure of coollector it could take quite some time to add this feature. It must be a lot of work keeping Coollector's database up to date, fixing bugs and database errors, and working on the beta version, along with countless other things that must be done. For Hector time seems to be a very limited resource. His long to-do list of features yet to be added is proof enough of that.

PS. I'm still wondering if there's something I'm overlooking that could make your task easier. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Sounds like an excellent suggestion.

Yes, my days are only 24 hours, and that really sucks :worried:

Only 200 movies ? What do you do exactly ?

If I were you, I would:

1) list my owned movies
2) use the left arrow to navigate from one movie to the next
3) stop when a movie has more than 1 owned video
4) remove the double from my disk
5) remove the double from Coollector

As I said, I don't plan to add a feature to list the doubles. But there are a couple of feature that I plan to add and that could help:

1) a button to reach (with a single click) the location where a video file is stored
2) automatic filling of your video files technical details (running time, image resolution, sound)

How to Lock a Drive to a Specific Letter:

(it's not really needed with Coollector, because the program will detect when the letter of a disk has changed)

:D Sounds pretty good :V:

To make things even better I added a small launcher app. to my desktop that runs Coollector Portable from my external HDD. Like Collector, if it doesn't find the file it needs to run it checks all drives. It's kinda like having a shortcut for Coollector Portable on my desktop (except better). I don't remember if i told you thanks for the idea yet...

Being able to send multiple files at once to the media player's playlist would also be cool. Especially when watching series.
