I saw this in the App Store and as a Mac-user and a movie collector (on DVD) I was very interested in your program.
So to learn more about it I visited your website. To my surprise I read this: "Coollector Movie Database is a FREEWARE".
In the App Store I have to pay 10,49 Euro for it.
Freeware?

Can you explain this to me, or do I have a misunderstanding about the concept of freeware?

Please tell me why this is?

Is there a way to try out your program before paying for it?

It looks like a Windows-program. How long does it exist as a Mac-program. Are there any reviews from Mac users?

I hope you have more information for me.

Thanks

You're absolutely right, I need to completely remove the word "freeware" from our website. Sorry I forgot to do it.

For the last years, Coollector Movie Database was a Windows freeware. We earned money only when the users ordered some DVD on Amazon. I thought that this model could work, but unfortunately it's far from paying the rent. I'm very sad about it, but I'm forced to move to the paid model. :worried:

At the beginning of the year, I've been very excited by the stories I'd heard about the Mac App Store. I've spent a lot of time/money/energy to create a Mac version of Coollector Movie Database. Now that we've been accepted by Apple (2 days ago), I will completely drop down the freeware model, because that will never work.

Early next week, I'll release the new version 3.19. It'll be like the freeware version, without any limitation or time limit, the only difference being that it'll open with a window suggesting to register the program if you like it.

This trial version will be available for Windows and for Mac.

I'll immediatly modify the Mac App Store description by writting: *** TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - Download the trial version on our website ***

Thank you very much for your reply - this is very helpful.

I don't mind paying for a program, but I was puzzled by the information on your website

It's a great idea that you will give people a try before you buy version. I will download it when it arrives, and if I like it I will buy it from the App Store.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for your patience !

Just an advice: you do as you like, but if I were you, I wouldn't buy it from the Mac App Store, because Apple's approval process can slow down the updates. Also, our price will be 12.99 dollars / 9.99 euros, instead of 12.99 dollars / 10.49 euros on the Mac App Store. Apple's price conversion is really too unfair for Europeans :x

Our presence on the Mac App Store is mostly for the people who would never know about us otherwise.

In fact, I will offer you the program, for your many contributions.

I will also offer it to Kakashi, Infinito, Z, KnoWei, and the french dude who made a donation some months ago.

I probably forgot a few persons. Please send me a private message if you contributed enough to deserve a free copy.

The Mac trial version is now available too.

Sorry it took me longer than expected. I've stumbled on some technical issues :sorry:

I have dowloaded the trial version - played a while with it - and then bought it form the App Store.
I have no credit card, so buying from the App Store for me is the only option.

This version is 3.18 and the trial version was 3.19. I guess the last one has more movies.
Will there be an update on the App Store soon?

With the App Store, you will be about a week behind. Normally, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Well, the movie database is a file called "english.movies.dat", and located inside the app bundle. Knowing this, if you're really missing a movie that is in the new database (for instance, it's you who requested its addition), you have the possibility to replace your old movie database with the new one. Not very convenient, but possible.
