Re: Crash when adding video file as ownedafter update to v3.

Wed Aug 14, 2013 3:23 am

I updated from inside the program. I used the "update" option in the "tools" drop-down menu. The app store does not even recognise me as having bought the program. In short, if I :worried: :worried: understood your question correctly, the answer is no, I did not go through the app store.

Are yo sure about using SAMBA to connect with my NAS? Thus far I have found no way to do this in OS X or the MyBook Live manual. The NAS manual does list CIFS/SMB as a supported protocol.

I tried the "command+K" procedure you outlined, and I get a failure to connect message when I change to smb.

If I change to smb I get:

There was a problem connecting to the server --- The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

Did you buy from the App Store or get the LITE version from the App Store? If you got the program from our website or from MacUpdate, it's normal that the App Store doesn't recognize it.

I've just released version 3.26.2, and it's built with a new version of wxWidgets that fixes the file dialog crash. Please download it from our website, and tell me if the crash is fixed.

The versions from the Mac App Store have been submitted, but it'll take several days before they're reviewed.

What's the current address of your NAS? Does it start with "afp://"?

It starts with ftp

The new version, downloaded by using the option to update from within the program, crashes when I try to open it.

I have restarted and downloaded it twice. It still crashes.

I've made the test and you're right, there's something wrong with the updater, thank you very much for reporting it. I don't know yet what it is, but I'll find out.

If you download from this address:

http://94.23.201.159/Coollector_Movie_Database.zip

there'll be no problem. I'd still like to know if the "play" icon now works.

Sorry for all this trouble.

I downloaded from the link. What I describe below happened twice. I deleted the first download and the whole thing happened again the same way with the second download:

The download went fine and left me with a copy of the program in the Download folder and a zip in the trash. The program opened OK the first time I double clicked it and I got v3.26.2. It did not work well for me. When I clicked on the "Movie Title Search" bar, the database entered single-pane mode. After quitting the program the first time, I was unable to open it again. Double clicking it gave me a a notification of it having crashed.

To be clear, I have kept v3.25.9 in the Application folder throughout all of this. It was not open when I had these problems, but it opened fine after both failures with v3.26.2

Moving to a newer version of wxWidgets has fixed the file dialog bug, but it has introduced several insidious bugs. I will go back to the version I used to work with, and only apply the fix to the file dialog bug.

P.S: I'm having an horrible day

I've just replaced the file:

From my testings, everything is fine now (fingers crossed).

Hey Hector, looks like you did it. The Play button works, adding a video works, program opens and closes multiple times. :yahoo:

That's the first good news of a terrible day... Thank you very much for your patience!

What's the model of your NAS? With some NAS, you have to enable/disable the supported protocols.

adamintelaviv wrote:It starts with ftp

I'm not a NAS expert, but I don't think ftp is the best protocol to play your video files. I'm even surprised that it works. Does it work well outside of Coollector?

It is clearly problematic all around. You are definitely on to something. The Time Capsule is connected with afp, other devices with smb. It is a WD My Book Live. I will try to figure out how to change the protocol. It has a "Network Mode" setting with a choice between "DHCP" and "Static". I am using DHCP. The Static looks like I could edit that line that starts with ftp, but I have no idea if I am even close to the relevant setting. A previous NAS used smb by default and worked better. Thanks for helping. :hi:

FTP is a protocol designed for listing the files in a folder, and to download them. It's meant to transfer the whole file. It can resume an interrupted download, but it wasn't designed to randomly access a file content.
