Post subject:  Find association with missing files (erases all links)

Hello Sir,

I have found my self scanning my movie files and re-associating them every time I use the "Find Association with missing files" feature.

In other words every time I run that "find association with missing files" it finds all my files are missing? but they are not for sure? of course it prompts me with found missing files window and the option to check off what I don't want to delete. will I didn't know that this program can make such a silly mistake and trusted it to know what its doing by allowing it to clean all missing links thinking its just a database optimization, but for the shock of me it removed all the association of all my movies. I thought I did something wrong because I just didn't believe this could be a bug in the software, because bugs can not be that bad. anyway I tried this few times and I get the same result always.

Please look into this as its not a small matter while its at the same time its just unbelievable to have such a destructive affect and renders the program useless.

Unless I'm not understanding something here or maybe doing it wrong but the fact is its really and unbelievably happening and I hope you can give me a quick answer or solution.

Your prompt help is greatly appreciated.

Regards

I've just made the test, and the problem that you describe doesn't happen on my computer. I get the message "All the associations have been checked and all the files could be found on disk".

We need to understand what's going wrong on your system...

Are you sure that the disks are connected when you check the associations?
Do you have a Mac or a PC?
Please give some examples of file paths...

Maybe I have an explanation... I think that it could be a Sandboxing issue.

Did you get the program on the Mac App Store?

Post subject:  Re: Find association with missing files (erases all links)

Thank you for the prompt reply and forum users help.

I am using Windows 7 64, and using the portable COOLLECTOR on a 5TB external hard drive.

this is how all my movies are stored and under the same (MOV) directory:
(Drive Leter):\MOV\The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) [1080p]\The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).mkv

I have most my (1000) movies in digital format under one directory on the same external drive, and coolector in separate default portable folder (collector) in the same external hard drive and it looks like everything works just fine only 2 issues so far as follows:

1- The issue I previously mentioned (Finding all association as missing) and have tried this many times and surly the drive is connected.

2- When scanning for movies it finds almost 80% - 90% of the movies? why I am saying that is because when I look on coolector movies list that I own! I found several movies not listed and have to associate them manually. This issue I have noticed the last 2 times when I had to re-associate all my files again after after running (Finding All missing Association... Feature)

Other Facts of the system:
I use AVAST antivirus,
CCLEANER once a day
My system is quad core processor
Have 8GB of memory
system has a fast processor
More then enough free space on hard drive and external drive
System is Clean from any Viruses or Maleware issues.
I dont Choose the option (Run as Administrator) when clicking on coolector.exe to run (should I?)

Hope this info will help, and thank you in advance for prompt reply and assistance in this matter.

Regards

There are 2 possibilites:

1) the video wasn't recognized and listed in the "not recognized" tab.

2) the video was associated to a wrong movie.

Those things happen, that's why you need to check the scan results before actually associating the videos.

And if you find a video where the scanning feature could be clever, please report the case to me.

Yes I do spend the time checking on the recognized movies and correct each one carefully. I assure I am very detailed with these things.

I don't think this is the issue at all.

Sometimes I use the Directory name instead of the file, but later I correct the file name and re scan.

Also as I said I had to start from scratch several times.

Also when I run the Find Association for missing...... It finds them almost aver 90% missing videos not just few?

In regards to the 2nd issue, I think you are right and I will practice mor care and detail in recognizing each movie.

Just hope this issue is not connected to the 1st one though.

Pleast let me know when you find out anything about the 1st issue as its the important one.

Also do you think I have too many files? does that make a difference?

Was thinking it finds so many missing files because the Folder names are same as file name and the database makes duplicate references because it scans as files + folders under (MOV) directory, but The Count of recognized and owned movies is correct count and not double count and also when it cleans the missing association the count goes all the way down correctly.

Just thinking out loud, sorry!

I've just made the test with the portable version, and still no problem. We must search elsewhere :worried:

What's the version number of Coollector? (it's written in the title bar)
Please give me an example of a file path.

Maybe you're right that the scanning feature has a bug. It'll be great if you can find a way to reproduce.

I don't think that it can make a difference. Also, we have many users with a lot of files, even more than you.

I had understood that all the files were reported as missing. Is it all the files, or just some of them?

There's a big difference. If there's a problem only with some files, we can try to understand what makes them special.

Sorry, Sorry was having dinner didn't notice your reply.

Coolector version: v4.2.8

this example is how all my movies are stored and under the same (MOV) directory:

(Drive Leter):\MOV\The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) [1080p]\The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).mkv

Not all files are found missing: usually from the 1000 files it finds some over 900 missing.

No problem, I had gone to bed anyway.

If your naming convention was troublesome, you'd have problems to scan your file. But your convention doesn't effects the association checking, which only verifies if the a file exists or not.

Solomon wrote:

It sure helps!!!

On the left, it's "H:\MOV", and on the right it's "G:\MOV"... Not the same drive letter!

When you attach the drive, it isn't alway assigned the same letter... It's an issue that I'm aware of and that I handle when you click the "play" icon => if a file is missing when you click the "play" icon, the program checks the other drive letters, in case the drive letter has changed.
If I do the same with the checking feature, the problem will be solved :excited:

I'll get back to you later today, with a new version :V:
