I am in Australia. Coollector looked perfect for my 500+ DVD collection. 2 problems

First - DVD R4 is almost completely unsupported (so I try to adapt R1 or R2 if similar cover art). This means a huge amount of work, which defeats the purpose of getting this program.

Second and much more importantly, the program crashes constantly and inconsistently. Mostly this occurs when editing movie details, but also sometimes doing searches or switching between owned movies and other parts of the database.

indicative example of my experience:

I select dolby 5.1 from the drop down menu - crash
I try the same again - crash
And again - no crash
So I select widescreen 16:9 from the drop down menu - crash and lose dolby detail as well
I select widescreen 16:9 again - no crash so I apply and have to reopen window
Back to dolby 5.1 from the drop down menu - crash
Reopen edit - widescreen still there
Manually insert dolby 5.1 - no crash so apply and reopen
I then go to add another language from the drop down menu - fine
This now needs a second sound entry so I click on the added sound window and crash
On relaunch I find that all added data has been lost. Have to start all over again.

The above may sound ridiculous, but I have been trying to log in the 6 Star Wars movies for 2 days now and on average the program is crashing once every 2/3 minutes. Obviously, this isn't happening to everyone else. Please advise.

Welcome!

To help Coollector Hector give you an accurate response, what operating system are you using Coollector on, and which version of Coollector are you using? The latest is version 4.5.8.

I get DVD information from Amazon. The problem is that Amazon Australia doesn't sell DVDs. There's Amazon India who sells a lot of R4 DVDs, but I haven't been able to become an affilate because "Only Indian Residents are eligible to participate in the Associates Program". It's weirdly the only store to have such a requirement.

With time, I had forgotten that our database had this shortcoming, thank you very much for reminding me. I will try to find a contact in India in order to become an affiliate.

Wow! I don't know any other user with such issues. The program used to crash in the past, but not the latest version.

As Gigagiggles said, I need to know what's your operating system and if you're using the latest version 4.5.8.

I am on OS X 10.10.5 and I have Coollector 4.5.8. Hope that helps.

Is it the version from the Mac App Store?

When the program crashes, does it generate a crash report?

Do you know how to go into the console to see the error message?

Is it the version from the Mac App Store? - YES

Do you know how to go into the console to see the error message? - YES

I attach the latest error report. The crash occurred when I clicked on an item in the drop down menu for the details section of the edit screen.

I hope this helps.

That's what I feared :(

I've checked my Apple developper account, and no crash is reported at all. In fact, I've never had any crash reported, as this feature has never worked (I don't know if it works for someone).

I've looked at your crash report, but as I suspected it's unusable because it's wrongly desymbolicated.

Could you please install the version from MacUpdate and see how it works:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40674/coollector-movie-database

If it crashes too, hopefully we'll have more luck with the crash report...

I've checked my Apple developper account, and no crash is reported at all. - I REPORTED THE FIRST 2/3 CRASHES TO APPLE THEN GAVE UP.

Could you please install the version from MacUpdate and see how it works - DONE. IT CRASHED ON EDIT 2 - LESS THAN 1 MINUTE!

If it crashes too, hopefully we'll have more luck with the crash report. - SEE ATTACHED ERROR REPORT 2. (LOOKS THE SAME TO ME).

Thank you for all your help with this.

On Amazon India, this won't solve the Australia/New Zealand problem. India is supposedly R5, but most players are R0. Wikipedia says that India uses R3, R4 and R5. If you spend a little time going through some Amazon India DVD's, I found only one with R4, a number of R2, R3 and R5 (or variants of that), and even more R0. The wide availability of R0 is probably why you couldn't get an arrangement with them.

I assume that you use Amazon because you have an exclusive cross marketing deal. As they do not supply DVDs to Australia, would you be allowed to source the info from another database until such time as they do supply DVDs (which, I understand, is not likely to be any time soon)?

Hear from you soon.

I use Amazon because they have the best database and API to access it.

Where do Australians buy their DVDs from?

Where do Australians buy their DVDs from? - I would guess that 50% + are bought while holidaying in Thailand or Bali! The rest would be from JB Hi Fi (Australia's biggest DVD retailer) Sanity and the discount department stores and supermarkets. There is a website that I have looked at which may be better than JB's for your purposes - DVD Orchard - dvdorchard.com - based in Queensland. Their DVD notes etc are very comprehensive.

Thank you again. Good luck and good night.

Apple doesn't give the reports to the developpers. They're supposed to do it, but they don't.

Yes, it's the same. I will try to get something out of it, but I'm sorry you'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'm releasing a new version of Coollector and it's a long process that requires all my attention.

Thank you very much. It looks like I could do something from it :)

Now that version 4.5.9 is released, let's try to fix this bug ;)

On the Mac App Store, there's a Lite version and a paid version. Which version do you have?

You've sent me a badly desymbolicated .docx file.

Could you please send me the .crash file instead, so I desymbolicate it myself. Thank you!

Could you please send me the .crash file instead, so I desymbolicate it myself. Thank you - YOU WILL HAVE TO TELL ME HOW TO DO THAT. I ATTACH A SCREEN CAPTURE OF WHAT I GET WHEN THE PROGRAM CRASHES.

Sorry .... I'm 50+ and limited in knowledge beyond Word.

Have a good evening.
