[FIXED] '+' button creates error which closes Coollector

Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:16 am

:hi: I hope all is well with you. I believe I have stumbled across a bug and I will do my best to relate exactly what happened. Unfortunately I was a bit distracted at the time and I can't be absolutely sure about what I did or in what sequence I did it. (1) I clicked on the movie 'Extreme Prejudice' to add it to my library. (2) I was reading the associated commentary, as well as a review of the on-line AMG guide, and listening to music on my 'Yahoo! Music Jukebox', (and daydreaming) (3) I looked in the 'Owned Videos' box and noticed that the words 'Extreme Prejudice' were there and I couldn't remember using the '+' button at all. I wondered if maybe I had accidently typed in the movie title when I had meant to type the title in the AMG on-line guide. (4) when I clicked '+' to remove the title from the 'Owned Videos' box, the words were removed but at some point after that I received an error message saying Coollector had to close. (5) Now if I try to access the 'Owned Videos' box for a few movies I picked at random I get an error message and Coollector closes :cry2: I hope this is an easy one for you.

Your coollection file seems to have been corrupted someway !?...

Please send it to me at hector at coollector dot com (it's the file "MyCoollection.cool" located inside the folder "Coollector\Coollections\") and I'll have a look at it.

Tried to email but failed

Hi Hector, I tried to attach the file to an email but once the file was finished uploading I got an MS message saying something like 'Can't find page'. So I'm not sure what to do now.

Does it work if you zip the file ?

If it doesn't work, you could use one of the many free online file sharing services (yousendit.com, filesend.net, box.net, snapdrive.net, etc...)

I think I have good news for you: your coollection file doesn't seem to be corrupted :D

I suppose it's the indexing system that went awry. If I'm right, it's very easy to fix.

Here is how:
1/ the program must be closed
2/ delete the file Coollector\Database\indexing.dat
3/ open Coollector
4/ wait until the file indexing.dat is completely rebuilt (when its size becomes superior to zero)
5/ check that everything works fine

Don't be surprised if the rebuilding takes several minutes (you have a very big collection).

Note: the indexing system allows the database to perform much more quickly.

indexing.dat rebuilt but no help

:( Hi hector, I performed the five steps you outlined in your last post but it hasn't helped. What should we try next?

I had tried a dozen movies and had found no problem...

Now I've tried again and this time I could make the program crash.

I'll give you my diagnosis a.s.a.p.

Your coollection file is indeed very slightly corrupted.

I've sent you a fixed file.

Now I'll try to figure out how this bug could happen :worried:

Thank you for the fix.
