version 2.99.7: update system doesn't work

Tue Mar 22, 2011 7:05 pm

This happens with Windows Vista and Windows 7, XP is fine.

Obviously, you have no choice but to upgrade using the setup:

We apologize for the trouble :worried:

Hi Hector, I've updated using the setup.exe after installing everything is ok but I can't see what's new in this version. Where can I find the read me file?

The file is named History.txt.

You can also find the change list on our website: http://www.coollector.com/history.html

This version fixes several bugs, and particularly this update bug which is very annoying.

it's okay, so long as I don't lose everything I had on it after the setup...

That's a good news, it'll be easier to debug.

Now is too late for me, but tomorrow I'll go back to you, and together we'll squash this bug.

It's always a good idea to create a backup of your coollection file "MyCoollection.cool".

But normally, running the setup shouldn't mess with your data. You don't have to uninstall before. Even if you uninstall, you shouldn't lose your data.

Here is my problem.

First off i should say i am not always connected, so in order to have the posters of the films i scrolled through all the films, a lengthy process as you can imagine. Now, not considering all the data i would hate to lose, i now find that with the link u posted, another version of coolector installed, not as an upgrade, but as a different program! Am i doing something wrong? Or is there a way i can upgrade the coolector i have with all my data instead of installing another upgraded version? Thanks.

There are two "Coollector" folders (and their subfolders) that a user should locate outside of the program's installed location. One folder contains the latest and backed up .cool files. The other contains the film database and jpgs of films and actors/actresses. In my stand-alone Windows 7 system, the 2 "Coollector" folders are found within the c:\Users folder--USERNAME\my documents and public\public documents.

Running an uninstall will remove the database and jpgs. Manually back up the aforementioned folders before uninstalling.

Running the setup program to upgrade should do no harm to the .cool's and jpg's (knock on wood, this is my preferred method). The setup should recognize a prior install from the registry. If the upgrade is glitchy, the process may destroy the latest .cool file. If there is a large time gap between the latest two .cool files, choose to run the program and cause a backup or two to occur before attempting to upgrade by whichever method.

gigagiggles is right. Uninstalling would delete you jpg files. So don't uninstall. Only run the setup.

What will the setup do ? It will replace the program and the movie database, and you'll be fine.

Because apparently Coollector can't open that directory. I will modify Coollector to not display the error message, but the problem still remains that it can't open the directory, and I suppose it's probably related with your update problem.

Sorry i have to post again but im terribly frustrated after running the setup again and noticing that, once again, rather than upgrading my old coollector it just installed another coollector (obviously the upgraded version, only without jpg. And data)

Its the third time i run the setup and i now have 2 coollectors. What in the world is happening that shouldnt?

PS - i am hardly a computer genius, i just love movies. So it would be greatly appreciated if u kept it simple. Thanks.

2 coollectors ? Do you mean 2 icons on your desktop ? Or do you mean 2 different locations on your hard drive ?

If it's 2 icons on your desktop, just delete one of them.
