i can understand that every images has it's place reserved and the program it's not need to create more files at my HDD, but i cannot understand how it's possible to have 0 files downloaded but same time have the image of persons you just updated when i didn't had them previously and you updated them on an image server.
How this things work? they are not counted as new images since they are at the same size as the program previously had it? why your test program didn't seize them?

The test program tracks only the number of movie images that are downloaded, not the number of person images.

oups, i forgot that

PS, but anyway; i like that option to see the numbers of images downloaded at each session, you should add this option for status bar at least ( i know you don't have any at this moment) or anywhere else :D, it creates the (false or not) feeling that you improved something with each session.
(covers, persons and characters as well)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've created this version only to make sure that the pictures were correctly downloaded from disk. It's clearly visible when new pictures are downloaded from the internet, I don't see the need to add this kind of feature to the program, even as an option.

i know why it was created and you are right, it's not a NEED. It's clearly visible when new images arrives since you can see them.

but "i'm in love" with this status indicator (don't ask me why, but i love it) and i would be pleased to find it in newer releases as a permanent "option"

Frankly, I don't understand why.

Unfortunately, I try to avoid having tons and tons of options, and I'm really not convinced by the usefulness of this one...

totally understand you, more options can cause more bugs ... it's your program, your call, i just mentioned my personal opinion.

It's rather the reaction of the users that I fear. They could find it daunting to have an option panel with gazillions of weird settings. Simplicity is a virtue.

I'd lose many users if I turned the program into a nuclear plant.

i don't think about any extra option panel, i think about let's say the classic status bar, at the bottom of the window, where only few information are display ... but as you said it's not a need, just in case ...

I wouldn't impose this feature to everyone. This information has little value, and it slightly slows down the program.

The program doesn't have any status bar. No need...

another images related question.
at least on the generated web page where we can list our coollection, all image are forced to have a fixed dimension, why you are not using this feature on the program itself too? this way all images should follow the same rule of let's say "300x500" or any other value and wide image will be stretched to fit this value and taller image will be shortened ...
as i see it, the image distortion will be not to big to spoil the general feeling.

It's already the case inside the grids: all the images have an aspect ratio of 8/10, and you can define the picture height by using the controls at the bottom of the grid.

Is there something that I didn't understand?

i didn't explained myself very well,
i meaning to the cover images too not only in grid, as it is now for cover images, the ratio keeps the original aspects but (i should) forced it and only the big image eventually take the original aspect.

example Northwest Rangers (1942)

The grids look better if all the images have the same aspect ratio. But outside the grids, there's no need to distort the images: there's enough room, and only one image.
