I'm having a go with the prediction game for the first time. It's working stably but it keeps asking me to rate the same film at least twice, with a couple of titles having appeared 4 times. I've rated just over 400 titles on the game and having to do multiple ratings for the same film is slowing things down. Is this normal behaviour (perhaps for titles with multiple version releases), is there a bug or am I just plain doin doing it wrong? :?

Cheers,
Peter

Thank you for reporting this bug, I wasn't aware of it.

When you click the button "I haven't seen any of those movies... Next!", the program remembers the 3 movies to not suggest them again. Are you saying that you click that button but the movies are suggested again? If you just quit the game, it's normal that the movies are suggested again.

If I hit "haven't seen..." I will get 3 fresh titles but if I rate a film, it will reappear in 2 - 3 cycles of the titles, or even after I reach a screen of titles I haven't seen and then hit "haven't seen..." It seems each title is getting rated twice, irrespective of whether I agree wth the prediction or not.

Also, I'm not sure if titles I rate in the game are appearing in my own Rated list; then again, I don't know if they are supposed to.

P.S. I should clarify that I am doing around 100 titles at a time; perhaps the game is only intended for short runs in one go?

Peter

Are you saying that the prediction game suggests movies that you've already rated? Are you sure of that?

Normally, they should. The number of "rated" should increase, and the movie that you've just rated should be displayed and you see your rating.

It should work in all the cases.

I have just rated 200 movies, starting with an empty database. I didn't notice anything wrong.

Could you please write on a text file what are the suggested movies, and what action you make. This way we'll be 100% sure that a movie has been suggested or even rated twice.

Text file attached along with latest crash files.

Peter

Apparently the forum won't allow me to attach a .txt file so here's a transcript:

My Bloody Valentine (2009) prediction + "good-" rated "very bad"

title appears on the right-hand pane with the appropriate rating
remaiing 3 titles are unseen so click "I haven't seen..."
next screen contains Mickey Blue Eyes rated "bad"
remaiing 3 titles are unseen so click "I haven't seen..."
remaiing 3 titles are unseen so click "I haven't seen..."
same action another couple of times then Coolector crashed

On program restart, these titles are added to my rated list correctly.
I will repeat until the next crash.

Ok, I've just rated the title The Quiet Man (1952). The film is shown on the right hand pane, correctly rated AND I can see it in my rated panel, also correctly rated but, when I continue the game again, the film appears on the next screen, ready to be rated again. I quit the game, at this point and when I re-start it, the same film is still there.

I realise what is happening is that, when a film is offered up again for rating, having been rated already, if I ignore it and click next, the database retains the original entry, but if I rate the film a second time, the database rating drops around two full icons-worth of ratings and I have to go hunting for it further down my titles list page to correct it. So that's the workaround for now but it doesn't explain why I keep being offered the same film 2 or more times and sometimes a set of three films that I've rated previously.

I don't understand why I can't reproduce the bug. Now it's too late, I'm going to bed, but tomorrow I'll inspect my code to see if there's a mistake somewhere that can cause a movie to be suggested even if it's already been rated.

Your crash dump doesn't contain any useful information because it was generated by the normal version of the program. But it's interesting that you're able to make the program crash. Tomorrow I'll give you a debug version, and if you're able to make it crash, this time the dump will contain information that I can use.

Thank you very much for your help!

Having just restarted the pc and freshly launching Coolector and the game, Coolector crashed after I initially hit "I haven't seen..." and before I'd had the chance to rate any titles. Crash files attached.

I'll catch up with you later,
Cheers,
Peter

Sorry, I can only use the crash files generated by a debug version.

I don't understand why the program behaves so strangely on your computer. What version of Windows do you have? Are you using the portable version of Coollector?

Here is the debug version:

http://www.coollector.com/Coollector4.0.Debug.exe

Please save it next to your current Coollector.exe, and run it from there. If you can get a crash dump, it should be very informative.

I've checked my code, and it seems impossible that the prediction game suggests a movie that you've already rated. Lets hope that the crash dump will tell us what's going wrong on your system.

Windows 8.1 x64; desktop-installed registered version 4.0

Coolector now crashes as soon as I launch the prediction game as if there is some sort of cumulative problem. The "predicted" tab seems to be working fine and I have swapped to rating films that way but the game has died on my setup.

Just spotted your debug version, which I will get going on, Meantime, get some sleep!

No luck with the debug version. First launch allowed the game to start then crashed (step 1). Subsequent launches caused Coolector to crash immediately (step 2). Next, I will try it all out on my Win 7 x64 machine.

Thank you very much for the crash dumps. They made their job. I'm now working on the solution.
