Help - Error Loop

Hi - I need some help. I needed to add new movies to my Coollector database, so I opened my Mac app and it downloaded an update like usual. However, when I installed the new version, when I open the app I'm now in an endless error loop.

The app won't open, it goes straight to the update window where I get an error "Could not update" and "Sorry, an error occurred..." with an option to retry or abort. Retrying gets the same error. When I uncheck the box to auto update and click abort, and try reopening the app, I get the exact same message.

My question is, if I uninstall the app and reinstall it from scratch, will I loose my current database? Or is there a way to back up the database before I uninstall? I have way too many movies to start from scratch.

You don't need to uninstall anything, it's enough to install the app again by downloading the setup file from our homepage. That should fix that weird install loop. Seems like you were updating a quite old version of Coollector, am I right?

It's always good to keep backups of your data. All your personal data is stored inside a file called a coollection file.

You can locate your coollection file and make a backup of it. That shouldn't be necessary though, as the app automatically creates backups for you:

THANK YOU! Yes, that worked and it updated the database successfully this time without the error loop. It was probably a year or so since I last added movies to the database, so yes, likely an older app version. I appreciate your help and your talent with developing this awesome database!

I'm relieved that it's an old bug rather than a new one.
