Post subject:  putting movies into a box
Hi,

i have some VIDEO_TS folders with 2 or 3 movies on them.
Coollector only regconizes the name given to the main folder,

example : The main folder Balto contains ONE video_ts folder
with all 3 Balto movies on it.

Now i try to add the other movies by hand to create an boxset.
Till now i didn´t succeed.

Its not possible to edit the location, i cannot select the correct
subtitle,

pls tell me how to do this when its possible

You have to put each movie in its own VIDEO_TS folder. I'm sorry, I don't see any other solution.

You can't create a boxset of video files. Your owned video files appear in 2 places: they are listed when you click the "play" icon, and they are listed inside the "owned videos" box. What would be the interest of grouping several video files? An overly complex interface, and more clicks to select a video file, that's all :roll:

I understand the need of grouping some movies by franchise, but I'd rather recommend to use the tags feature.

For example, you'd use the symbol "[F]" to signal a franchise tag, and you'd create the tags "[F] Balto", "[F] Batman",
"[F] Indiana Jones", "[F] Rocky", etc...

You mean creating "dummy" folders with the name of the movie i want to add ?

No, it must be my englisch....
I don´t want to create an boxset of movies that are in the database but add movies that are
not regconized because of the above story.

It´s an option, the tags function is used by me, to point at one special HDD where
i collect 3D movies. For example : i own Priest 2D on HDD_5 but also the 3D version
on HDD_4. Now i tag Priest stored in de database with : "3D version on HDD_4"
This because i don´t scan HDD_4 to coollector, it´s only used for rare and 3D movies
and changes a lot.

But why tagging when i could add Balto 2 & 3 to Balto 1 while they are on
the same disk....

"Franchising" sorry, don´t know the meaning, the dictionairy tells me it got
something to do with banking.... :?

Yes, a video is recognized either by the file name, either by the folder name. If the video is in a VIDEO_TS folder, there's no choice, the name must be taken from the folder above the VIDEO_TS folder.

You need to put each movie inside their own folder, for example:
/Balto Movies/Balto/VIDEO_TS/
/Balto Movies/Balto 2/VIDEO_TS/
/Balto Movies/Balto 3/VIDEO_TS/

I don't understand why you have several movies inside the same VIDEO_TS folder. I don't think it's normal to do that.

If each movie has its own folder, there'll be no more problem., they'll be recognized (and in case they're not, you'll be able to associate them manually with the "play" icon).

With different folders, you'll be able to scan those movies. But they won't appear as a pack, and I thought that it was important to you that they appear as a pack. But if it's just a scanning problem => different folders.

A movie franchise is when there are several movies with the same universe, the same characters, and connected plots. There can be sequels, prequels, remakes, etc...

Franchises don't exist only in the cinema industry. There can be book franchises, comics franchises, etc... For example, the Spiderman comics became a movie franchise. Or the books from Tolkien... Or the books from J. K. Rolling...

Sometimes, it starts with a movie, who's successful, and becomes a franchise when the studio decides to make a sequel (Fast & Furious).

When a studio owns the rights on a franchise, the other studio are not allowed to make movies with that universe and those characters.

Oke,

thnx for explaining, i understand. ( i think ;-) )

The Balto movies where ripped fron the original DVD´s, then
changed into avi´s and packed together on one DVD with new
menu.
The solution of creating dummy folder works fine for me

On a related note - is there some way to manually add a video_ts folder? it picks them up fine with a scan, but if you are manually adding, you can't select the video_ts as the target, it opens the folder and then you can only select the vob files etc.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution for that. I can either invoke a file selector dialog, or a folder selector dialog. There's no dialog that can select both folders and files.

What problem do you have when you select the .vob file?

It's more that I never know which file to select of all the .bup's and .ifo's and so on :) - but, using the scanner means it picks up the video_ts folder, and then it works perfectly when you play the movie, brings up the menu etc.

It's not really a problem (as, you can always use the scanner with a bit of renaming), I was just wondering if there was some way of manually adding it that I hadn't worked out :)

I could modify the program so that when you select a file inside a VIDEO_TS folder, it's like you select the VIDEO_TS folder instead of the file. What do you think?

From my point of view that would be perfect (I had kind of hoped that would be what it did already :) ) - my only concern would be if there are people who for some reason want to be able to pick a specific file in the video_ts folder...(I don't know enough about the file structure to know if that makes any sense or not :) )

I've just checked my code, and when you select a .vob file, it's the VIDEO_TS folder that is used.
