Post subject: | Naming of movie series for scanning files |
Hello Hector. I have just finished an intense renaming process of my movie files, so Coollector can scan all of them without problem. All works great except for the movie series. I have chosen the naming convention of adding an order number to the beginning of the name, so it is easy to see the progress of the saga at a glance in the file explorer. Following I list the Indiana Jones movie series as an example: 01 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - En busca del arca perdida 02 - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) - Indiana Jones y el templo maldito 03 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) - Indiana Jones y la última cruzada 04 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) - Indiana Jones y el reino de la calavera de cristal If I don't use the preceding order numbers the list in the file explorer wouldn't be chronological ordered. But adding these order numbers results in Coollector not recognising the movie names while scanning files. I know I can live with the files without order numbers and not ordered in the file explorer but I think it is a nice feature. Above all with large sagas as in Star Trek. So, could you consider adding to the scanning engine the ability to ignore the preceding order numbers in a file so it can recognise the movie? I know you can't to that directly as doing that Coollector could not recognise any film beginning with a number in the name. But perhaps it could easy works adding some scape character before or surrounding the order number so the program can recognise when it is an order number or it is part of the name. Some possibilities: (01) - ... #01 - ... _01 - ... etc What do you think? |

Yes, the scanning algorithm tries to find the longest matching string starting from the first word. A bunch of movie titles do start with a number. When it's a movie series, the titles in the database are carefully chosen to make sure that the movies will be listed in the right order. For example: Indiana Jones 1: the Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones 2: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Indiana Jones 3: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Indiana Jones 4: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home etc... Star Wars, Mad Max, Matrix, Harry Potter, Transformers, Planet of the Apes, Saw, Final Destination, etc... Use the same titles as in the database and you'll be fine. ![]() |

Fantastic, that's a perfect solution. I will follow the same name convention! Thank you very much! |

I have just starting the renaming of the movie series when I have realised of a problem with some movie series not recognised as such by Coollector (doesn't have a common starting string) For example: Romancing the Stone series 01 - Romancing the Stone (1984) - Tras el corazón verde 02 - The Jewel of the Nile (1985) - La Joya Del Nilo The Zorro series 01 - The Mask of Zorro (1998) - La Máscara del Zorro 02 - The Legend of Zorro (2005) - La leyenda del zorro Predators series 01 - Predator (1987) - Depredador 02 - Predator 2 (1990) - Depredador 2 03 - Predators (2010) 04 - The Predator (2018) - Predator Some of the series are ordered by the titles themselves (Romancing and Predators), but I think it is a matter of luck. If a new movie is done (not very possible in Romancing, I know ![]() Any solution for The Zorro series? I will continue renaming and I tell you the problems I find |

It's not really a matter of luck, it's just that I do something to the title only when it's necessary. Uwalk wrote: Any solution for The Zorro series? With the next update, I will rename the sequel "The Mask of Zorro 2: the Legend of Zorro". You can tell me if you find other cases like that. |

I have just finished the renaming of all of my movie series and there are only very few of them bad ordered: The Zorro (I include this again so you have all of them in the same place) The Mask of Zorro (1998) - La Máscara del Zorro The Legend of Zorro (2005) - La leyenda del zorro Planet of the Apes (old ones) Planet of the Apes (1968) - El planeta de los simios Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) - Regreso al planeta de los simios Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) - Huida del planeta de los simios Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) - La rebelión de los simios Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) - Batalla por el planeta de los simios Riddick Pitch Black (2000) The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) - Las crónicas de Riddick Riddick (2013) Wolverine X-Men 4 - X-Men Origins, Wolverine (2009) - X-Men orígenes, Lobezno Wolverine 2 - The Wolverine (2013) - Lobezno inmortal Wolverine 3 - Logan (2017) I suppose last one is a personal preference, including the "X-Men Origins, Wolverine" as the first of the Wolverine series being "Wolverine 1" instead of "X-Men 4". I will accept your decision ![]() Thank you very much again for all of your work! |

All the changes will be visible with the next update. For X-Men 4, I've added the aka "Wolverine 1". |
