Hi,..

I wonder if there are users who use (home) WLan for streaming video
from computer to television an how they do it ?

I use an Hyundai MMediaplayer with 2 build in HDD´s and like to use
WLan for transferring video´s that are not on Hyundai but still on my PC
trough Hyundai to television. It works but only with .avi. When i want to view
DVD-5 or better transfer rates are to slow,...
I use Realtek RE300U-PA-2T2R). ● 802.11n (40MHz) WLan sticks with
upto 300Mbit/sec but it still isn´t fast enough.

- Something to check.

Make sure your network is actually set to wireless n, and not g or otherwise running on a wireless n router. The routers I'm using now are wireless n however my network was not set to wireless n until i noticed and changed the settings.

The network is on wireless n
I think the biggest problem is reading from USB HDD over WLan
Reading from internal HDD is quite alright !
Maybe i should think about RAID just like you,... or NAS,.... Hmmm unsure ?
I´m not well informed, anyway it sounds expensive

NAS would probably be your best option. I have set up my laptop as a media server in the past and gotten good speeds streaming to a wireless g laptop.

Since you already have hdd's something similar this ($100 US) should work. NAS using Gigabit Ethernet should be extremely fast when plugged directly into your router. I think this would increase the speeds on your current external drives.

Well,

The problem with an NAS is storage capacity !
The one you mentioned can contain 2 HDD´s upto 4TByte
when i want all my external HDD´s on NAS then i need bying
an NAS with the possebility for 4 HDD´s, prices starting at
€ 250,= and we should not forget that the collection is growing ;-)

I think for now swapping HDD´s is the only "cheap" option

Hi Skinamp,

Can you clarify a couple things for me please. I might be able to help.

1) What kind of file are you using for DVD5 - is it an iso or a vob or something else?
2) What do you have connected to the TV - only the Hyundai MM player or the PC as well?

1) What kind of file are you using for DVD5 - is it an iso or a vob or something else?
I use .VOB and .MKV unpacking downloaded iso´s to there original state
2) What do you have connected to the TV - only the Hyundai MM player or the PC as well?
I connect the MMedia player and a HD Sat receiver, no PC

Both are connected trough HDMI Cable

The PC is in the next room and the router in a room (kind of) in the middle of them
the distance is no more than 5 meters, trough one thin wall only

Hi Skinamp

I googled for a Hyundai MMPlayer but only find automotive players. Would be interested in reading the functional spec for the MMPlayer you are using. Paste a url if you have one.

In the meantime let me describe what I'm doing.

Setup
2 USB drives (1 TB each) attached to a Linksys NSLU2 NAS controller aka a "Slug" on the LAN.
NSLU2s w/USB Drives hold my ISO files.
Headless desktop PC on the LAN attached to a projector (could also use a TV monitor).
Virtual DVD drive running on the PC.
Use location field in Coollector to store path to the ISO file. e.g. \\192.168.1.xx\disk 1\filename.iso

Usage
Fire up the projector select the PC as the input source. Open Coollector on the big screen and choose a movie. Click the play button in Coollector and click the file path/name. This causes the PC to load the ISO from the NAS location into the virtual dvd drive. That auto launches the PC's DVD media player.

When the virtual drive "loads" the ISO from the NAS it does not load the entire 5 or 8 GB file. It fetches a few blocks of data at a time so the streaming and buffering is managed by the SMB protocol (Samba). This is running across a 100Mb wired LAN but I've also tested it on G wireless and it worked ok with occasional hitches. A faster WLAN probably would work even better.

Possible Solution
If your MMPlayer can read the files of an unpacked ISO then you could leave your files in ISO format on one or more USB drives attached to the PC. On the PC you would load (actually mount) an ISO into the virtual DVD drive. Then point the MMPlayer at the virtual drive where it will see an unpacked ISO.

USB 2.0 transfer rate is 480Mbps so I'm quite sure that is not going to be a bottleneck.

What is unclear to me is how your MMPlayer handles the data it is reading from your PC. If it can read the data but the wireless is too slow then it maybe time to punch a hole in wall. Use a short bit of PVC pipe cut flush with either side of the wall to give it a nice finished look. :)

The MMedia player is able to play .iso files, next i´ll leave one movie on external
HDD connected to PC and then i´ll try if the transfer will be better !

Whitin 2 or 3 weeks a friend of me come´s over to setup my network in a correct way,
i believe i made a mess out of it :-) We will connect over Lan rather then WLan
so i will let the WLan be,..... As i told somewhere, bying an NAS is not an option
because it´s far to expensive with the amount of HDD´s i expect in the future.

Anyway i will test the .ico before closing down my WLan project ;-)
,..... Also try the .iso loaded from Power Iso virtual drive manager
and let you know !!

It will take some time, i´m not very good with this stuff :worried:

Very nice looking box! Is it sold in Europe or did you bring it from Korea? I've been out of the market for a while but it is unusual to find a hardware device that reads ISO.

With the Samba client/server functionality built in and the supported file types, you should be able read the ISO file from your PC or a directly USB connected to your PC. I use VirtualCloneDrive by Elaborate Bytes for my virtual dvd drive on the PC.

It also appears you can just plug the USB drive directly into the MMPlayer. But of course if you do that, you won't get to use (Cool) Hector's "play file" feature. :D

Good luck with your set up. I'll check in from time to time to see if there are any updates.

Hi KnoWei,.

I buyed the Hyundai in Germany on eBay :-)
The MMediaplayer is great, unfortunatly i don´t know anything about Linux, when
i would know more , then programming the MMediaplayer connected over Lan or WLan
would be easy.

I´ll come back to you when i tested reading an iso loaded into a shared virtual drive !

So i stop trying things out and wait for the Lan connection :yes:
