Post subject:  V2.49 Installer Issue [Auto Update Problem]

Hi (cool) Hector,

My Coollector just tried to update itself from v2.48 to v2.49. The *.exe is getting installed to the root of C: instead of to C:\Programs\Coollector

So everytime I exit v2.49 and reopen with my desktop icon it tries to run v2.48 which is still in C:\Programs\Coollector which of course downloads v2.49 and we start all over again. :)

You must be using the version I had sent you by mail, and you must have copied it at the root of C:

You don't need that version anymore...

Instead, run "C:\Programs\Coollector\Coollector.exe", and the update should go nicely.

I thought about that. So I tried it on a second machine that didn't have the temporary .exe. Same thing happens.

Plus the one installed at root of C: has at 5/23/09 5:20AM date modified timestamp (that would be my timezone I presume). So that's too late for the prior version.

Any other thoughts?

I can certainly just drag the v2.49 exe from C:\ over to Programs\Coollector. But I've searched the hard drive and there is no new english.movies.dat anywhere on it. Shouldn't that be updated too?

Have you run "C:\Programs\Coollector\Coollector.exe" ?

In the worst case, you download the installer from our website:

Downloaded and ran installer from desktop. That installed the v2.49 exe to the C:\Programs\Coollector correctly.

My english.movies.dat is still showing an 8/19/2009 date modified. Is that correct? (The size is 52,188 KB)

You're right, I've made a stupid mistake with the update. I will fix it immediately.

The english.movies.dat is now getting updated but the auto update is still installing the coollector.exe to c:\ and not c:\program files\coollector.

That's on two machines.

Are any other forum users having an issue with auto update like this? If not I'll need to fix something locally. Other users please weigh-in!

Have you removed all the Coollector.exe that are not "C:\Programs\Coollector\Coollector.exe" ?

Are you sure your shortcut is pointing to "C:\Programs\Coollector\Coollector.exe" ?

I searched the C drive and I had two intstances of coollector.exe

C:\program files\coollector\coollector.exe with a mod date of 8/21 4:51a and size 849KB

-and-

C:\coollector.exe with a mod date of 8/23 10:52a and size 848KB

I deleted coollector.exe at C:\

Yes. Double checked. But to be sure, after I deleted C:\coollector.exe I launched Coollector by doubleclicking C:\Program Files\Coollector\coollector.exe

I can watch the install process drop the new coollector.exe into C:\

It never writes anything to C:\Program Files\Coollector\ :worried:

This is the auto-update not an install using a download of Coollector_Setup.exe

Thanks (cool) Hector.

In the meantime - can anyone else verify that the auto update is working normally? To test for this problem:

Open Coollector.
Let Coollector check for updates.
Coollector will ask you to close in order to install the update.
Coollector will open after the updates complete.
Close Coollector again.
Open Coollector again.

If it begins to update again then you likely have this problem. If it doesn't update again check the version by rolling your mouse over the globe in the center of your screen. It should say "update (Coollector v2.50)".

First time installs via the download link don't appear to be affected by this problem. Just auto updates of existing installations.

I apologize for this problem.

Either disable the automatic update, or update by downloading the installer from our website: www.coollector.com

I can't reproduce this bug, but I will investigate with KnoWei. Together, we've already solved several bugs. He's a tremendous help !
