Here is another version:

http://www.coollector.com/Coollector_Test6.exe

Are the paths still truncated ? And if they're not truncated anymore, does the update work ?

Difference was the initial message box contents. Otherwise, the same--inactive updater.

Same as test7. Same message box contents. Same inactive updater.

I've found a Windows 7 that behaves exactly like yours.

I'm now able to debug this thing comfortably, without bothering you.

Thank you very much for your help and patience !

I have good news and bad news.

Good news: test10 went without a hitch. No initial message box. No Norton interference. Both databases downloaded. Clicking to restart Coollector initiated a UAC process. And Coollector restarted as version 3.06.

Bad news: After fiddling with 3.06, I tried to restart Coollector. Since no new desktop icon was created using this method of update, I went to the original desktop icon to start it up. Version 3.05 opened up. After visiting all the locations Coollector might be in, the attached png's showed 3.06 never got installed, despite the good news that it did restart as such during the update process.

It got installed. It's just that you launched the test program from a different location, and if you look at that location, you should find the Coollector.exe and history.txt that were installed.

During a real update with the real Coollector.exe, everything will be fine. By the way, tomorrow I'll give you a version 3.06 that can update, otherwise you'd have to manually install version 3.07.
