Actors are credited when they appear in a scene, even if it's as a footage from another movie.
Lionel Barrymore is credited for his role as "Henry F. Potter", a role he played in the 1946 movie "It's a Wonderful Life".
I haven't watched "Home Alone" in a very long time, but my guess is that there's a scene where Macaulay Culkin watches the Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life" on TV.
