 Post subject: Update Question

Being new to coollector I might be missing something but I did a manual update this morning and noticed that when it had finished I had lost all my designations for "Owned" Movies, Since I have over 2,000, this forced me to restore a backup. I'm hoping that I'm missing something that I should have done because if I'm going to lose my designators for owned movies with every update I won't be able to update considering the work involved to mark them owned again.

Of course you're not supposed to lose your data when you update, there must have been a bug :shock:

I didn't look at anything else after noticing all my owned flags were gone. I did keep the corrupted file and have attached it for your review along with a screen shot of my current statistics window. I can do another update and investigate whether anything else was affected if that would help just let me know.

Updating won't have any effect now that you're up-to-date. Today I will release a new database update. When it's available, you'll be able to test.

I don't doubt that you've suffered a glitch, but it's probably not too serious. My guess is that you were a context (that we must determine) where after you've updated the app some bug has caused the interface to display incorrect information.

When you'll be able to update later today, if the glitch happens again, please tell me which panels are displayed and how you notice that something is wrong. Then move to the stats window to see if it seems fine or not. You should also check some movies individually, movies that you've rated or owned or tagged. We need to determine if it's just some temporary display glitch, or if the issue isn't fixed until you restart the app.

No Problem Hector, I'll let you know. I have the day off today so I'll be able to work on it. As for what I noticed previously, after the update when I set my filter to "Owned" no movies were displayed and it said I didn't own any movies. We'll see what happens after the update today.

Of note, I did what you suggested, opening coollector by double clicking the updated file and surprisingly everything looks fine SMH so it appears that I should have closed and reopened the app after updating before jumping to conclusions, I know better now and will test it again after the update is available today. Sorry, I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.

In order to test without waiting for the new version to be ready, I've installed the previous database on my computer, then launched the update. Everything went fine, I could set the owned filter and saw all my owned movies. The stats window was fine too.

If you want the possibility to make several attempts, you have to keep a copy of the current english.movies.dat before upgrading it.

Thanks for the heads up on english.movies.dat, I backed that file up. I downloaded and applied the update and of course everything went fine this time. Everything looks good comparing the current stats window to previous screen shot and the owned filter is showing the correct number of movies. I'll definitely be watching and prepared for each update.

Agreed, I'll back up before every update and let you know if it happens again. After several days of working with your database app I must extend KUDOS to you again, what an awesome program. I only wish I could have found it years ago, keep up the good work my friend.
