As you can see in the screenshot, every srt file have some extra information such as the source or the quality of the file. So if i rename my file as "moviename.mp4" then i wont be knowing which srt file is best synced with the movie file.

So your screenshot speaks it all.

Anyways thanks for the information. I dont use vlc but I prefer Gom which have similar option for subtitles.

I need to check my code, but the only other hidden feature that comes to my mind is control + P to enable/disable the automatic predictions. Maybe I will add an "advanced" tab to the settings and regroup those hidden features, I haven't decided yet.

Yes that would be great because I didn't knew that such option exist in Collector to enable/disable prediction.

I have a large movie collection and in the past I used to have some of my movies in the same style as yours, folder named correctly and inside, the mp4 or whatever file type plus its subtitle, etc.

Now I rather have everything on .mkv, simpler, cleaner and more elegant. I recommend you MKVToolNix, to create .mkv as a container for your movies. This way you have a single file that contains the movie, audio tracks, subtitle tracks, chapters... very convenient and the process is very easy and fast. And because .mkv is just a container, you don't need to re-encode the movie file, so no loose in quality.

As for renaming files, I have done it on more than 2,000 movies, by hand, one at a time and yes, it takes quite a lot of time but it is worth it.

This hidden feature is now replaced by an advanced setting

The new version 4.11.4 has an advanced setting for that.

How long is quite a lot of time ?

When i make a container of an avi, video_ts or mkv file that contains
the subtitels, when this file is about 5Gb, working on a laptop with
pentium i7 processor and SSD ? Any idear.....

I have a rather old PC (around 5-6 years) with an i7 3770 and keep my movies on mechanical drives 8 to 10TBs so not as fast as an SSD. The average time to create a new mkv from avi (never tried video_ts) for a 10BG movie is 1 minute or less. Since there's nothing or almost nothing to re-encode, the CPU doesn't matter much. Your SSD will help making this process faster for sure, even on a laptop.

Where do you find .avi movies from about 10Gb ? The biggest .avi i have is maybe 4Gb.
Anyway, i installed the program and made a containerfile out of an .mkv and added the
.srt subtitle file.

When i use the SSD i have to move the movie to laptop first, this takes time.

Creating the container file over the network on the NAS (4Tb mechanical drives), 5Gb
Matroska and 1 subtitle added, took about 7 minutes. When copiing the files to SSD first
it takes 2 minutes excluding the copie time

So, i'll leave the subs next to the movies, i won't live long enough to create containers
of all my movies
