When you click on a link, your system launches the default app to read that link, i.e. your default browser. It's weird that the system made such a mistake, maybe it thought it was an ftp link instead of an html link.
It doesn't seem that your system was corrupted by a malevolent application. In my opinion, it's more like a temporary hiccup of your system.
