Same cast. Added twice on IMDB (one in tv form, other in movie). The movie format seems to be more popular one due having 500+ more votes. What is your policy when duplicates rooted in IMDB flaws are noted?

From time to time there are duplicates on the IMDb, most of the time it's when movies are just released and it's quickly fixed by the IMDb. It's rare when such an error has an effect on Coollector's own database, it means that I've added the duplicates without noticing, probably after a user request.



When the IMDb will remove one of the two, I'll remove it too. If it's important to you, you can signal the error to the IMDb:

Oh I appreciate that it was likely added by you after a user request. But I wondered if you employed any kind of 'blacklist' policy when someone offers up a dud by IMDB thats either non-existent or a clone of another entry.

I've submitted a merge request, as awkward and non-intuitive as it is on IMDB.

No, I don't keep track of the rare duplicates that I happen to notice. Duplicates are generally fixed quickly. In fact it's when they're fixed that I'm the most likely to notice them (I notice that an Id has changed after a merge as the IMDb gives a redirection).

When I add movies to Coollector's database and search for the matching IMDb Id, from time to time I stumble on a duplicate in which case I use the IMDb Id with the most data, knowing that the IMDb will probably fix the issue in a matter of days or weeks.

But they're THE reference movie database. As a single developer I would be foolish to try to have a better database than theirs.

That's why I made it a rule to only add movies to Coollector that have a matching IMDb Id:

1) if a movie isn't worth being on the IMDb, it's not worth being on Coollector.

2) Coollector would have a ton of duplicates without this system. I let the IMDb find and fix the duplicates for me, they have much more manpower than I have.

3) it'd look like a bug if the app had some orphaned movies without a link to the IMDb.

So if something is added to your database, and it eventually gets removed on IMDB, does it automatically get removed from your database at a certain point?



Eh, it's mostly because it's such an awful user interface.

Of course. It's rare but it happens. For various reasons:

1) duplicates
2) series episodes that had their own page for a while before being finally listed as episodes
3) films that never saw the light of day

That's why I don't like adding titles more than a month before their release. Only exception is for the very big releases which I may add as soon as they have a nice poster as well as a known plot and cast. Waiting avoids a lot of trouble. Title can change, poster can change, and even sometimes the project is aborted completely.

IMDB has now deleted the TV series on my request. Your link on Coollector now goes to a redirect to the movie.
