missing an option

Would it be possible to add an extra option?
I would like to mark an movie as "seen", this without having to use
the rating smilies

That's a definite no.

The meaning of the "seen" icon would overlap with the meaning of the "rating" icon, as rating a movie also means that you have seen it. That wouldn't be coherent.

I do not rate the movies because in a family all people have
an different "taste" of good and bad.

You just have to set the rating filter to "not rated (not yet seen)".

I don't rate mine either. Most times its just too hard to decide. Especially if other peoples opinions are to be considered.

Maybe there should be a smiley for us too?

Have you read the rating guidelines ?

If you follow them, rating becomes an exact science. Never do I hesitate on which rating to give. Never !

One thing that happens to me frequently, is that some movie comes back to my mind, and I'm convinced that I haven't rated it yet. So I go to the movie, only to realize that I have already given it the exact rating that I was about to give it

You're missing something guys ! Rating is the number one feature why I use Coollector. And it'll become even more important when the prediction system will be in place.

Especially if other peoples opinions are to be considered.

Personally, I feel quite the contrary. I'm proud to show my taste in movies !

An "undecided" smiley ? Hell no !

The rating guidelines are designed for this to never happen. When I have to give a note from 1 to 10, yes, me too I have a hard time to decide. But with the 7 smileys, the choice is always obvious. Always !

Please make the test with a few movies, and you'll see that I'm right.

That you couldn't decide between very good and excellent, or between bad and very bad ?

If a movie is not particularly good nor bad, then you rate it "neutral".

You did not understand the philosophy of the ratings.

You rate for yourself, not for the others. The rating system must be useful to YOU. It's mostly based on how often YOU'll watch a movie again.

I completely agree that a movie isn't good or bad in the absolute. It's all relative. Some people think a movie is good, and some others think it's bad. None of them is right or wrong. Even your own opinion on a movie can change over time.

Not everyone think the same about a movie, but we can find groups of persons who share similar taste. Maybe they won't have the same taste for all the movies, but for example they'll have the same taste for action movies. We can imagine a group who's happy as long as everything explodes, and another group who can't stand it when the plot is stupid.

That's how the prediction system will work:

1) find the groups that you fit in.

2) see how a group tends to rate the movies that you haven't seen yet (the movies relevant to this group).

What would be the meaning of "undecided" ?

Means that the movie is watched but for some unspecified reason a rating is undecided or pending (or just not stated). Kinda like the "I'd rather not say option in a questionnaire" or when a politician etc. says "No Comment". It works as a filler so that its known that there is a value/answer. Its just that for some reason It is not made shown/said.

We're talking about movies. It's supposed to be fun. Why act like a politician ? There's no lives at stake.

Give a rating, and if you change your mind, you adjust the rating. Nobody gets harmed.

You can overuse the "neutral" icon if that helps. At least it shows that you've seen the movie, and you can use the filter "not rated (not yet seen)".

And so what ? You have the right to be different. Be proud of who you are. Are you afraid that your family will discover that you like Barbra Streisand movies ?

And why do you all share the same coollection ? Wouldn't it be better if each member of the family had his own coollection ? They would use your coollection only to find a video.

People who like similar movies will tend to rate movies similarly. What I mean is that even though that would be ideal that is not the case with me. It was simply speculation.

Are you afraid that your family will discover that you like Barbra Streisand movies ?

I'm more of an Animations guy.
